... but! It also has uses that potentially go beyond the uses I made it for, like motion graphics, effects and crowd animation. This video demonstrates the Advanced settings and shows a few examples of how they might be used. I'm sure creative animators out there will find many more.

FK : Arcs For Free ?

A lot of beginner animators wonder about when to use IK or FK. Often experienced animators tell them something like 'With FK you get arcs for free'.
But what does that actually mean?
Here's a clip from one of my live Twitch animation demos where I tried to explain this and think I found a pretty good way to illustrate it in a quick and clear way.

Trying something a little different here - instead of a quick test or a finished piece this is a homage/parody short I've been working on for a while that's still a work-in-progress. I'll be addressing notes, polishing and finishing this live on Twitch over the next while. Hope to catch you there! twitch.tv/brian_horgan_animation

bh_aimTools is a new animation tool I've created for Maya that simplifies the process of setting up aim controllers to give alternate ways of interacting with character rigs.

I'll be releasing it next week, this video gives a quick demo of one possible use of the tool.

bh_aimTools is a new animation tool I've created for Maya, inspired by the workflow demos of Richard Lico. It streamlines the process of using aim targets to control rotation animation and applying the animation back to the controls. This gives powerful and intuitive ways to visualize and interact with rotation-based animation in 3D space.

To see another use of this tool (creating secondary motion from existing animation on the rig) please see this video - vimeo.com/314845542

The Rig I'm using in the demo is by Kiel Figgins.
