bh_pathAnim is a robust and flexible new tool for path animation in Maya.
My goal was to make it fast and intuitive to attach any rig, with any number of limbs and body controls, to a path and animate it walking or running along it. It will work for bipeds, quadrupeds, insects etc. and includes a function to bake the path animation back to the rig.

One thing I didn't cover in my workflow run-through video ( vimeo.com/246717221 ) is how to move the entire path animation system around once your character is attached to it. It's very straightforward though so I made this quick video to illustrate.

bh_pathAnim Update : Fix Rig Stretch Beta

One issue you can run into when attaching a rig to a path system is that when you increase the length of that path significantly the rig will start stretching noticeably as the controllers get moved further apart along the path, this is unavoidable really as motion path nodes work in percentages of the entire path length rather than regular Maya units.

I'm working on some ideas for dealing with that with bh_pathAnim at the moment, I'm going to test this over the next few days and once I'm happy with how it's working it will be a free update for all of my customers.

bh_pathAnim Beta1-03 : Project and Rebuild Paths

I'm working on more features for my path animation tool. These latest two are all about editing the paths - now they can be rebuilt to increase/decrease the amount of edit points and can be projected to a surface to make it faster to get your characters walking over uneven terrain.
I'm currently testing all new functions and plan to release an update for all customers sometime this week.

Hey Animators, I've just released bh_pathAnim update 1.036. This is a free update for all customers. The new tools include : Z-Up Maya support, a tool for fixing stretching in your rig, some tools for projecting/rebuilding and reversing the path curves and I've built the footLocker tool in so it no longer needs to be installed separately. BatSniper Flame Rig test

I bought this cool rig from Kiel Figgins where she has a jet pack and I wanted to see if I could come up with a simple rig that could show it in action without having to render smoke etc, so I made this today as a test. It's just a simple piece of geometry with joints deforming it so very light and will show up in playblasts.

Very quick and dirty animation test with this cool free rig I found yesterday. The Hekaton rig is by Tre Vital. I used bh_pathAnim (as usual!) to move the animation loop through the scene, in fact in this playblast the rig is still attached to the path system. If I get more time I'll bake it to keys and polish the foot contacts more.
